Biography

Jonathan S. GATERA is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since February 2019. He is not new to RNIT Ltd as he served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors since its establishment. Prior to his appointment, he was the Director General of Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) from August 2015 to October 2018 where he oversaw the management of all the Social Security Schemes under the Board. Before joining RSSB, he was one of the Senior Cadres of the Central Bank of Rwanda (BNR) where he held different senior positions including the post of Director General in Charge of Financial Sector Stability (from January 2014 to August 2015). Prior to this position, he was the Director responsible for Financial Markets Department (July 2011-Dec 2013) where he prudently managed the official foreign exchange reserves to ensure price stability, sound financial system and the overall development of the domestic financial market. He also held different Managerial positions (Jan 2009 – June 2011) including Manager in charge of Financial Markets Analysis and Manager responsible for Official Foreign Exchange Reserves. Between June 2000 (when Jonathan joined the Central Bank) and Dec. 2008, he was mainly involved in Money Market Operations as Analyst within the Monetary Policy Department.

Jonathan holds both Bachelor of Science and Masters’ Degree in Economics from the University of Rwanda (BSc & MSc Economics). He is also a Graduate Fellow of the Macroeconomic & Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa – MEMFI (Harare, Zimbabwe) where he specialized in the Development and Management of Domestic Financial Markets.
